Implementation – Description of Work Packages

The hotel sector is an important driver of economic, social and environmental development. The sector promotes economic growth, employment and investment in Greece. It provides revenue to finance facilities and infrastructure enjoyed by visitors & residents and promotes the quality of tourism services in the country. The proposed project “GIVS” promotes the benefits of adopting sustainable development in the hotel sector and specifically in the Mediterranean Village Hotel & Spa. Through the deliverables, the project aims to provide sustainable solutions to the above mentioned unit.

WP:1

Title: Management & Coordination

WP1 runs throughout the duration of the project. Its objective is:
The development of effective monitoring of the entire project, to ensure integrated, efficient and competent management of activities/ deliverables successful implementation of the project in terms of time, quality and cost. WP1 will provide a comprehensive management guide setting out the measures to be taken to promote the project’s findings and, in this sense, will provide the basis for the dissemination and outputs of the project.

WP:2

Title: ‘Circular’ Hotel

The objective of WP:2 is the gradual conversion of the hotel in question into a ‘Circular’ hotel. A “Circular” hotel is defined as one that makes significant environmental improvements to its structure in order to minimise its footprint on the natural & man-made environment, achieving a total transition to the circular economy model. This transition will create comparative advantages and benefits over its competitors, such as:

  • recognition as an innovative action by international markets.
  • an internationally recognised innovative product as a competitive advantage.
  • improved visitor experience.
  • improved marketing.
  • increased profitability (reduction of operating costs through interventions and actions).
  • training of staff/local community.
  • informing visitors about good practices/actions.
  • increase partnerships with institutions/businesses etc.

WP:3

Title: Certification of Good Practices in the Circular Economy

The Certification of Good Circular Economy Practices will be created to provide a new understanding of environmental management at Mediterranean Village Hotel & Spa. The Certification Regulation that will be developed will include the minimum obligations that any hotel or accommodation should aspire to achieve. The Criteria will be designed to be used by all types and sizes of hotels. The Regulations will be piloted by Mediterranean Village Hotel & Spa during the course of the project. In this way, the hotel will gain a comparative advantage over the others.

WP4:

Title: Multidisciplinary Digital Application

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in threats affecting tourism businesses such as natural disasters, health crises (beyond the current one, health risks (the problem of waste in island regions)], which creates the need to implement integrated strategies to address them, as it is observed that they are engaging stakeholders (tour operators) who increasingly stand in support of such initiatives. From this perspective, in the context of corporate responsibility, a digital multi-topic Application with a focus on risk/crisis management will be developed, which will serve as a step of continuous improvement of the CSR implemented by the hotel as already since the outbreak of COVID-19 it has included a dedicated information section on its website, providing information to all stakeholders about the services it has added and is implementing (to ensure the health of its guests and employees).
This App will be deployed via mobile devices and will be a permanent tool to provide continuous information to visitors and employees of tourist accommodation on safety issues from health and other crises – risk prevention etc.The project beneficiaries will commit that the digital App will fully comply with EU data protection rules, in particular the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Privacy Directive.

WP:5

Title: Corporate Social Responsibility

This EU primarily concerns the pilot publication of the hotel’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report. The EU5 contributes to the full compliance of the hotel business with the new law 4403/2016, which is a follow-up to Directive (EU/2014/95) of the European Parliament and of the Council (OJ L 330/1 of 15 November 2014) “amending Directive 2013/34/EU as regards the disclosure of non-financial and diversity information by certain undertakings and groups”. The benefits of issuing a CSR Report can be multifaceted, such as:

  • monitoring the performance of the facility in terms of sustainability (waste reduction, cost savings, etc.),
  • increasing stakeholder confidence in the business,
  • effective management of business risk cases,
  • training and continuous learning from the reporting process,
  • continuous improvement of the company’s environmental and social footprint,
  • promoting business integrity,
  • improving the image and corporate reputation (brand timelessness),
  • better credit rating

WP:6

Title: Communication & Dissemination

The project “GIVS” requires and aims at a well-planned communication strategy. To achieve this, all dissemination activities will be outlined through a robust plan. The use of technology, the internet and Social Media (MSM) will act as facilitators of the project’s objectives and results to a wide audience. One (1) Workshop will be organized to inform local stakeholders about the project activities, and at its closure as an overall aggregated action, a final Conference will be organized in which, among other things, the project results and the next steps related to its sustainability will be presented. The Workshop and the Conference will be held within the Regional Unit of Pieria.
